Tackling homelessness in our community
Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan said last young people at risk of homelessness across our community would receive greater support through increased Government funding.
He said the Government had provided more than to $1 million to Reconnect services for the homeless.
“Reconnect provides support and assistance to young people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless,” he said.
“Reconnect services will help stabilise the lives of vulnerable young people in our community by keeping them connected with their families, communities, and education or employment opportunities.
“The Reconnect program is operated by Social Futures, and I encourage anyone who knows someone in a vulnerable housing situation to use this service.
“The Federal Government’s long-term funding of Reconnect is enabling services to intervene before crisis occurs.”
Social Futures chief executive Tony Davies said: “We created one of the first Reconnect services in Australia and during the past 20 years we have supported thousands of young people and their families through it. We’re delighted the government is continuing to fund this very successful program.”
“Family breakdown is a major cause of youth homelessness and many of our participants have experienced family violence. This funding will assist them to set and reach goals, repair broken relationships and stay connected to home and school. Ultimately we’re all about supporting them to reach their potential and live the lives they want.”
