Maclean Gifts and Sweets, formally known as The Chocolate Box, closed its doors on Saturday, for the last time. Heather Horton, who has owned the popular shop for the last 16 years, is retiring. Heather will not be idle in her retirement; she has other business interests, some house renovations and maybe a trip to Tasmania, to keep her busy. Over the years Heather has seen a generational change as the children that grew up frequenting the much loved confectionary shop, have returned with their children. All the left over stock in the store will be going to other shopkeepers in Maclean; Maclean Newsagency, Gails Gifts, Skyes Coffee Lounge, Coffee Art, Cottage Take Away and Yamba Fudge. The much loved shop owner said that she is sad to be closing. “I will miss the children greatly,” Heather said. “We’ve had lots of hugs and tears. “I’ve loved every minute of it.”
