MAROUBRA BEACH, SYDNEY: Surfers all over NSW will get the opportunity to learn free CPR, thanks to a partnership between Surfing NSW’s Surfers Rescue 24/7 program and Surf Life Saving NSW’s Living Room Lifesaver program.
The free CPR course will be utilised to fulfill one component of Surfing NSW’s free CPR and board rescue course Surfers Rescue 24/7.
Surfers Rescue 24/7 is a free board rescue and CPR course for all surfers and recreational water users in NSW. It provides crucial training to assist in an emergency situation and could ultimately save a life.
Living Room Lifesavers Program has been able to continue the crucial training of CPR and lifesaving skills throughout the COVID-19 restrictions, in particular to many essential and frontline services. These have included staff from various NSW Emergency Services, Transport for NSW (TfNSW), Lifeguards, and more recently representatives from the newly formed Resilience NSW.
By completing the online Living Room Lifesavers CPR course, surfers will learn;
- Primary assessment and CPR on adults and infants
- Key principles of providing basic emergency care
- How to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Latest guidelines on the impact of COVID-19 in performing CPR, including the use of pocket masks
Surfing NSW CEO Luke Madden stated: “Surf Life Saving NSW’s Living Room Lifesaver program is the perfect platform to be able to fulfill the CPR component of Surfers Rescue 24/7 in a time where Covid-19 restrictions are still being enforced across the state.”
