Succession uncovered in new young farmers podcast

Farmers from New South Wales shine a light on one of the biggest challenges for farming families in a new podcast series exploring succession planning, available on 4 February 2021. The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Young Farmer Business Program recorded Propagate across the state, talking with farmers who have been through succession or are planning for succession. NSW DPI Young Farmer Business Program Team Leader Alex Hicks said the second season of Propagate uncovers the essential ingredients for a positive succession plan. “Succession planning experts share tips on communication and professional avenues for support and advice to keep family relationships and the farming business on track,” Ms Hicks said. “We talked to farmers with real succession experiences, they were so honest. “This season of Propagate will give hope and guidance to young farmers and fishers beginning or in the middle of the succession process.” Renae Connell shared her personal story on the podcast and said succession planning can seem to be a tough journey. “We want others going down that road to know that they are not alone,” Mrs Connell said. The series features farmers from Mungindi, Dorrigo, Narrabri and Geurie alongside experienced succession planners Isobel Knight, Lyn Sykes and accountant Tom Larkin. Propagate is available now with all eight episodes available to download for free via Google Podcasts, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
