Spare a thought for the ‘singles’

Lynne Mowbray

As we head into this period of self-isolation and cutting ourselves off from the world as we know it, we need to spare a thought for those within our community who are single.

While it may be a scary thought for many to be trapped at home with the spouse and the kids over this period, those living on their own aren’t necessarily ‘blessed’.

For them, it will be a time spent in isolation, totally void of something we have taken for granted all our lives – human touch.

While social media will be a godsend during this time and Facetime and Skype will get a good work out, it’s the kisses and cuddles from the kids and grandkids, the slap on the shoulder from a mate or the intimacy of a new love, that those living alone will miss.

As a community we need to be mindful of those living alone and stay in constant contact with family, friends and neighbours who are alone, especially during this difficult time.
