South Grafton Men’s Bowls Australia Day competition

Regardless of the shocking weather that marked January 26 we had a good turnout for our Australia Day event. Though we couldn’t bowl, everyone one seemed happy enough to spend the day in the clubrooms touching base with members not seen for a month or so over the holiday break and to catch up on all the gossip. The damper comp went ahead and yum was it tasty. Some of our more extroverted men and women were talked into representing their teams by dressing up in all sorts of finery before strutting their stuff. This was met with no small amount of laughter and set the mood for us to enjoy a typical Aussie BBQ. With plenty of competition prizes to be won and plenty of good company to be had; not even the weather could put a dampener on our first day back.

Saturday January 30 – CRD Championship Fours: First District game of the year and our guys travelled to Iluka to compete in sweltering and storm threatening conditions.
As luck would have it our teams were drawn against each other in the morning match and put in an amazing game that went to a draw tie breaker at 16 all.
The final result was G Kilduff, P Robinson, L Bond & L Preston d N Harrison, D Andrews, B Ashbrooke & I Cheyne 17-16.
The successful team went on to play a Maclean team and incredibly once again had to play off after squaring up 15 all. Once again they won by a shot to carry the day. Good stuff.
Sunday January 31 our team competed in the next round of the 2016 CRD Fours at South Grafton Ex Services.
The result of this match was South Ex’s B Wormald, I Knox, G Ireland & A Kilduff d South Grafton’s G Kilduff, P Robinson, L Bond & L Preston 25-15.
