Salvos share the spirit of Christmas

Clarence Valley residents are invited to a Christmas carol evening at the Grafton Salvation Army Hall in Oliver Street this weekend.

The free community event will be held on Sunday, December 17, from 6pm.

All are welcome to attend for a joyous evening of singing and seasonal cheer while the Grafton Salvation Army Band play a selection of tunes.

“Everyone in the community will have the opportunity to sing along with the band at a special Christmas Carols event,” said Major Cathryn Williamson from The Grafton Salvation Army.

“We will sing traditional carols as well as some of the more familiar modern Christmas songs.

“There will be something for everyone.”

The Grafton Salvation Army Band will also be performing Christmas carols across a number of public venues in Grafton each Tuesday and Thursday night, and at local aged care facilities each Sunday in the lead up to Christmas.

Grafton Salvation Army volunteers will also be at Grafton Shoppingworld gift wrapping Christmas presents between 10am and 4pm until December 23.

On December 14 and 21, hours will be extended until 6pm, and gift wrapping will also be available between 10am and 2pm on Christmas Eve (December 24).

A table will be set up at the top of the travelator need the food court.

Presents will be gift wrapped for a donation which will go towards assisting local charities.

Major Williamson thanked Grafton Shoppingworld for once again providing a space for the volunteers and said a gold coin donation for each gift wrapped helps The Salvos continue their work within the community.

Having already spent some time gift wrapping, Major Williamson has previously wrapped gifts ranging from a box of chocolates up to a saucepan set.

“There isn’t much that we won’t have a go at wrapping,” she said.

The Grafton Salvation Army will also hold a service at 9am on Christmas Day at the Grafton Salvation Army Hall.
