River Street Maclean

Ed,

In response to Harry Johnson’s letter (CVI 12/02/2025) The Clarence Valley Council has successfully transformed River Street from a “speedway” where a percentage of traffic travelling each way exceeded the speed limit, but at a constant speed. NOW a percentage of traffic negotiate the “Wombat Crossings” and drag race between the two crossings, increasing the noise level excessively.

The cyclists the cycle way was intended for, don’t use it.

There is a perfectly good pedestrian pathway on the same side as the residences, so why the need for another one where pedestrians have to cross the street to access it.

Emergency services are now hindered by slow, ignorant motorists that cannot pull over to let the services past until down river side of BP servo, (this scenario occurred last week) could be a “life or death” situation the wasn’t taken into consideration when planning the “so-called improvements”

The parking width allocated is 2.286 metres, the width of delivery trucks is 2.5 metres maximum.

The cycle way is 3.2 metres plus .4 of a metre buffer zone.

Harry Johnston needs to “get out of his fantasy bubble” and come and stand on our front porch and see for himself.
