Richie Carter leads Yamba championship

Saturday was the first round of the championships at Yamba Golf & Country Club and some unbelievable scores were recorded.

A huge field of 184 golfers competed, with some finishing in the dark. Richie Carter parred the course to lead with 72 from Terry Winser (76), Jolon Homewood and Reilly Wunderlich (78).

Darryl Hagarty is narrowly leading in B Grade with 84 from Tommy James, Rob Hodson and Dan Mullins, all on 85.

In C Grade, Andrew McLennan is the leader with 94 from Jeff Boylon and David Morris 95. The first round was played in conjunction with the monthly medal.

Terry Winser won the A Grade medal with a sparkling round of nett 66, he was followed by Andre Rizk (67) and Dan Neill (68).

B Grade winner was Darryl Hagarty (67) with Lester English and Rob Hodson in his wake with 68 each.

Andrew McLennan was the C Grade winner when he survived c/b against Douglas Brown when they scored 69 nett. Jeff Boyland secured third place with a net 70. Ball winners need 74 with 36 nett on the back nine.

Midweek Stableford to Zane Lowe

148 golfers competed in the midweek Stableford round with Zane Lowe taking the A Grade voucher with 42 points, Wayne Rice was r/up with 441 and Bob Walpole finished in third place with 39.

In B Grade, Greg Robbs was the winner with 39 points from Peter Auliff and Czes Czarnota, both of whom had 36.

C Grade saw Ron Bines return to the winner’s list with 39 points followed by Jeff Boylan and Bryan Groth who were separated by c/b when they scored 38 points each.

The ball rundown went to 34 with 16 on the back nine.

Ingledew and Holliday secure Father’s Day Cup

A field of 58 golfers competed in the prestigious Father’s Day Cup and the spectacular scoring continued in the magnificent Spring weather.

Kelly Ingledew and Nigel Holliday combined well to score a win with 50 points. Second place went to Jo and Col Simmons with another great score of 46 on c/b from Fay and Rob Gimenez. It was a weekend when everyone was celebrating being freed from lockdown and this was reflected in the standard of golf played.

Other winners during week: Tuesday Twilight – Stephen Lamb; Lockdown – Cliff Wood; Chook Run – Andrew Bolte.
