Reilly Wunderlich scores ‘hole in one’ at Yamba

Two golfers had a memorable day at Yamba Golf & Country Club when playing in the midweek Stableford competition on Thursday. Reilly Wunderlich played the perfect shot to the third green and saw the ball disappear into the hole. The odds against holing their tee shot for the average golfer are huge.

For Reilly, much less. Congratulations Reilly.

In B Grade, Harry Fahey made a mockery of his handicap to amass a great 45 points to win from Greg Laforest (41) and Czes Czarnota (38).

The A Grade winner was the consistent Terry Cumiskey with 41 points. Reilly took second place with 39 (1 under par) and Richie Carter 38 (Level Par).

Peter Jarman took the winner’s voucher in C Grade. Both he and Graeme Coates had 36 points and it took a countback to separate them. Peter Russo finished in third place with 35.

NTP’s were sponsored by SeaFire Steak & Seafood, Peter Campbell Physiotherapy and Yamba Barber Shop. On the 3rd – Reilly Wunderlich H.I.O., 9th – Richie Carter 180cm, 10th – Bruce Lulham 26cm, 12th – Alex Podbereski 129cm and 17th – Barry Fisher 240cm. The ball rundown went to 35/16.

Windy day at Yamba Saturday golf

Saturday’s Stableford event attracted 156 golfers to Yamba Golf Course and gale force winds played havoc with the scores. Hitting low shots into the wind and high ones with the wind behind sounds fairly easy. Most of the golfers failed to do this and scores suffered as a result.

In A Grade, Geoff Flett took the winner’s voucher with 38 points from Col Lindsay (36) on a countback from Harold Peacock.

Peter Blom showed the benefit of an early start when he put together a very good round of 39 points to win from Steven Abbott (37) on a countback from Dan Mullins.

It took Stuart McDonald from Maclean to show how it should be done when his 41 points was the best score of the day and won C Grade. Brian Smith (36) was second from Perry Robinson (35).

NTP winners: 3rd – Andrew McLennan 136cm, 9th – Tommy James 264cm, 10th and 12th – Jim Kelly 133cm & 172cm respectively. A great shot on the 17th saw Club President, Tony Moran, 219cm away and he holed the putt for five Stableford points. Thanks go to our sponsors SeaFire Steak & Seafood, Peter Campbell Physiotherapist and Bean Scene Café. Balls went down to 32 points with 17 on the back.
