Re-love and reuse! A sustainble shoppers’ delight this weekend

This Saturday, May 15, the NSW North Coast community will be buzzing as the biggest garage sale day event of the year, Second Hand Saturday, re-emerges for 2021!

From kayaks to camping gear, tiny houses, massive whole-house garage sales, and pre-loved children’s treasures, there is something for everyone with over 300 garage sales registered across the North Coast region over the coming 2 weekends.

Hosted by North East Waste and Council, the free community event has gathered momentum over the past 14 years, encouraging the North Coast community to support re-use over landfills and be proud of contributing positively towards the ever-increasing war on waste.

“Last year, we were unable to hold the event, despite so many residents clearing out their garages and organizing their homes. This year, we are once again thrilled to be holding this event, and bringing it earlier into the year than usual. We wanted to assess the appetite for holding garage sales in our community, and we are so pleased with the response from our community,” said Linda Tohver, Education Coordinator. “There is once again an amazing array of goods on offer, ready to be re-loved!” she said. “Anyone wanting a carbon-free future for their children will know how important reuse and repair is, over buying disposable goods. Holding or shopping at a garage sale is the perfect way of contributing to this.”
