In between persistent showers of rain, a crowd of more than 60 attendees gathered at the Ramornie Cenotaph on April 21 to honour those who served and selflessly gave their lives during World War I (WWI) for their country and generations to follow during the 2024 Anzac Day service.
Stepping up to the microphone to deliver the opening address, Fred Norris, Co-ordinator of the South Grafton Chapter RSL, said Anzac Day is a day when Australians come together as a nation to remember the sacrifices made by our forebearers to provide us with this country and the freedom we have.
“We honour their memory and respect our duty to live up to the responsibility we have,” he said.
“We give thanks for those in our community who continue to serve as members of our Defence Force.”
After Member for Clarence Richie Williamson read the Anzac Day Address, wreaths were respectfully laid beneath the cenotaph as piper Iven McLennan played Lament before Lynne Caldwell was invited to step forward to present the Commemoration Of The Fallen.
Shez Mayer delivered the Closing Prayer as the Australian flag flew prominently in the breeze.
Attendees were then asked to bow their heads in silence as bugler Garrett Salter played The Last Post and Rouse.
Following the conclusion of the service, guests were invited to attend a morning tea.
Lest We Forget.
