The picture really epitomizes what conditions have been like for Yamba lady golfers over the past fortnight or so. This photo says it all. From left to right: Jennifer O’Neill, Jo Simmons, Sue Wilson. Image: contributed

Rain…rain…rain

The weather Gods turned it on big time with clear, blue skies and calm playing conditions for last Wednesday’s Ladies’ Summer competition. After two interrupted rounds, it was great to see such a large field comprising 52 players including visitor, Heidi Falconer, who we welcomed from Maroochy River.

Results

In Div 1, the winner was Val Pate (38pts); Lee Daley (37pts) was the next best, who scored ahead of Jane Bonner (35pts).

The Div 2 winner was Jenny Dewar who played solid, consistent golf (40pts) while the r/up was Joy Williams (39pts); Glen Czarnota (38pts) followed up closely.

Lyn Bartley (39pts) won Div 3 and Lesley Love (36pts c/b) and Julie Vernol (36pts c/b) fought for the minor placings.

Winners went home with a $30 voucher while the runners up and 2nd runners up won $20 and $10 vouchers respectively, courtesy of Jamie Corkill in the Pro Shop.

The ball rundown went to 32pts c/b and included: Gwynne Thomas, Jean Whitby, Joan Berry, Colleen Bamback, Margaret Solomon, Jeannie Doolan, Judy Palich, Lyn Rowland, Suzie Prosser, Annie Green, Irene Williams, Leigh Robertson and Carrie Aitken.

The NTP (1 ball) were won by Lee Daley 3rd, Fay Gimenez 12th and Lynne Donsworth 17th (2nd shot).

Unfortunately, we were not treated so kindly last Friday with the skies opening in the early morning. With 90mm drenching the course between 7am and 9am, golf was clearly out of the question. Over recent weeks, there have been many occasions when our ladies have endured very unpleasant conditions. We are now hoping that the coming weeks will see a patch of fine weather so our Summer Competition can continue uninterrupted.

No play took place on Saturday due to the MI Organics Pro Am.

Please remember to check your ball account as any balls won this year must be cleared by Friday December 31.

Happy golfing.
