Pre-loved shoppers’ delight this weekend

This Saturday September 28 the NSW North Coast community will be buzzing as the biggest garage sale day of the year arrives – Second Hand Saturday.

From boats to brush-cutters, camping gear and pre-loved children’s treasures, there is something for everyone with over 550 garage sales registered across the North Coast region and over 50 in the Clarence Valley area alone.

Hosted by North East Waste and Council, the free annual community event has continued to gather momentum over the past 14 years, encouraging the North Coast community to support re-use over landfill and be proud of contributing positively towards the ever-increasing war on waste.

This year also sees a growing trend in joint or community garage sales with over 80 registered across the North Coast, meaning you really don’t need to wander far to bag yourself some pre-loved bargains!

Ursula Tunks, President of the Mend and Make Do Crew in South Grafton will be holding their annual fundraiser as part of Second Hand Saturday, with their op shop’s half price sale continuing throughout the week from Saturday September 28 to Saturday October 5.

“We have participated in Second Hand Saturday every year since our Op Shop opened, to raise much needed funds that support front line agencies working with homeless, at-risk and low income community members.”

“The funds we raise go towards providing a range of kits to these organisations to distribute, including toiletry, kitchen starter and cleaning kits and much more,” she said.

“Second Hand Saturday fits in well with our annual fundraiser as our volunteers also use recyclable and pre-loved items to produce art and craft, which is then made available for sale.”

“We’ll have arts, crafts, collectables, bric a brac, books – you name it! All half price for the week so come visit us and support a great community charity.”
