Police seize drugs and firearms; man charged

Police have charged a man with drug and firearm offences following a vehicle search during a random breath test. Shortly before 2pm on Thursday June 2, police pulled a Hyundai Excel over on Armidale Road, Coutts Crossing (18km south west of Grafton). Police will allege the driver, a 29-year-old man, was acting suspiciously and resulted in the vehicle being searched. During the search, police will allege cannabis and a drug, believed to be methyl-amphetamine, was located. A firearm and ammunition, believed to be stolen, were also located during the search. All items seized will undergo forensic examination. The man was arrested and taken to Grafton police station, where he was charged with ‘possess prohibited drug’, ‘possess unauthorised firearm’, ‘possess ammunition without holding licence’, ‘not keep firearm safely’ and ‘goods suspected stolen in/on premises’. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Grafton Local Court on Saturday July 16, 2016. The arrest was made as a result of ‘Operation North Coast’, which was launched by officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Highway Patrol to conduct random breath tests.
