Locals and Visitors to the Clarence Valley expect to see an increased police presence during the holidays, following a break-in at a Yamba service station last month and three stolen burnt-out cars found on the streets.
A NSW Police spokesman confirmed the former Shell, now Mobil Service station on the corner of Treelands Drive and Yamba Road was targeted last month.
“About 3.20am on Tuesday 26 November 2024, a service station on Yamba Road, Yamba, was broken into via a glass door, with food, drinks, and cigarettes stolen,” police said.
“They left the scene a short time later in a vehicle which was later found burnt out on Yamba Road.
“Police attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District attended and have commenced inquiries into the incident.
“As inquiries continue, police urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
Police are also chasing information on two stolen cars that were dumped next to each other and burnt in the past week near the intersection of Gumnut Road and Acacia Circuit, Yamba, one of which was stolen last Thursday, December 12, from the Calypso Caravan Park and reported on social media.
Member for Clarence, Richie Williamson, reassured CV Independent readers there will be a significantly increased police presence across the Clarence Valley during the Christmas Holidays.
“The holiday period is here, and I am absolutely positive that our local police are putting in plans that will see increased policing through Yamba, Iluka, and obviously our coastal hotspots – that includes Minnie Water and Wooli as well,” he said.
“As the population increases over summer so do the opportunistic thieves.
“I am very confident our local police have the plans in place to ensure that there is high visibility policing over the Christmas period.”
Mr Williamson said in 2023, an Inspector has been appointed to oversee the Lower Clarence Valley.
“Since last year we have seen the introduction of a Lower Clarence Inspector, Sally Scott, and her sole focus is on the Lower Clarence area to ensure that any police operation and response to crime is adequate,” he said.
“I’ve spoken with Sally to ensure that the plans are in place.”
