Podbereski does it again

A field of 139 golfers took to the fairways last Thursday to contest the midweek Stableford event at Yamba Golf & Country Club.

It was another bleak winter day which put the dampener on a lot of scores, but in A Grade, Alex Podbereski was again the winner, with 39 points on a countback from Shayne Hayman. Craig Erskine came in third with 38 points.

Score of the day was recorded by a visitor from Moruya, Nicholas Shepherd who amassed 44 points to easily win from Chris Durrington (40) and Jan Dampney (37).

Keith James made a welcome return to the winner’s circle in C Grade with 38 points on a countback from Brian Dwyer and Peter Blom. NTP’s were sponsored by SeaFire Steak & Seafood, Peter Campbell Physiotherapist, and Yamba Barber Shop.

On the 3rd Terry Winser was closest with 207cm, 9th Luke Luchetti 73cm, 10th Tim Stokes 156cm, 12th Reilly Wunderlich 200cm, and 17th Andy Harris 267cm. 34 with 19 on the back was needed to win a ball in the rundown.

 

Eagle to Garry O’Connell

A Stableford round with a Fourball in conjunction was played on Saturday and the undoubted highlight was a magnificent eagle on the very difficult 7th hole. Garry played a perfect second shot while disappeared into the hole. This is the first eagle at the beginning of March, so the nest was full of 48 balls.

In A Grade Wayne Rice was the winner with 38 points on a countback from Kash Robinson with Mackenzie Wright securing third place with 37.

Big John Maguire was the B Grade winner with the day’s best score of 42 points. The minor placings went to Steven (Chook) Henwood and David Carothers who both scored 38.

Don Schlussler was the C Grade winner when he had 38 points. Brian Smith came second with 36 and Perry Robinson third with 34. Nearest to the pins were: 3rd Andrew Kelly 278cm, 9th Jim Kelly 154cm, 10th David Carothers 154cm, 12th Kane Hancock 134cm, and 17th Tom Tillechild 250cm. Thanks to the sponsors SeaFire Steak & Seafood, Peter Campbell Physiotherapist, and Bean Scene Café. The ball rundown went to all who had 34 points and just one score of 33.

 

Farewell to Tash and John Wright

A two-person Ambrose was held on Sunday to farewell our Pro John and his wife, Tash, who is moving to the Sunshine Coast where John will be a teaching professional at Maroochy River Golf Club.

158 golfers competed in the event with Mackenzie Wright and Tom Littlechild having the best net score of 62.

NTP’s: 3rd Jennifer Fagan 233cm, 9th Tommy Littlechild 312cm, 10th Michael Rosnell 162cm, 12th Col Simmons 16cm, and 17th Carrie Aitken 280cm.

It was a magnificent winter’s day of golf to celebrate over 10 years spent serving the golfing fraternity by Tash & John at Yamba Golf Club. We wish them success and happiness in the next chapter of their lives and hope to see them back from time to time.
