With the Jacaranda trees looking their spectacular best last Friday, we welcomed 118 ladies from far and wide to our Westlawn Finance sponsored 4BBB Jacaranda Open in perfect weather conditions. A large number of players were dressed in the various hues of the beautiful purple Jacaranda making our course an impressive sea of amazing colour which added to the spirit of the day. Congratulations to “our girls”, Peg James and Noeline Smith who combined fabulously on the day and played magical golf to storm in with the best nett score of 49pts. Both ladies complemented one another exceptionally well with several pars in their joint effort. They recorded a lovely birdie on their final hole, the 9th, after Peg placed her 3rd shot to within 15cm of the cup, then sank the putt for a 4 pointer to clinch the win. Peg and Noeline also recorded the best gross score on the day with 30pts. However, the 1st place gross prize was awarded to Sue Reguson and Jean Dahl with 29 on a c/b from Janette Blair and Chrissy Danvers. Gross 3rd place went to Carrie Aitken and Jennifer Fagan of Yamba on 27. Nett runners up were Tina Hogg and Jill Schipp of Maclean with 47 on a c/b from Karen Cross and Lois Milham of Coffs Harbour and Bonville. Ladies travelled from Coolangatta-Tweed, Kyogle, Coraki, Ballina, Iluka, Maclean, Yamba, Woolgoolga, Coffs Harbour, Bonville and Armidale which helped to make our Jacaranda Open Day the outstanding success that it was. Our ladies are very appreciative of, and sincerely thank Westlawn Finance for their ongoing sponsorship and support of this long running cherished event on our golfing calendar. Day 1 of the Enid Dougherty Aggregate Challenge was conducted last Wednesday with a 2 person Ambrose event played. With a field of 60 starters, the winning team comprising Sharyn O’Grady, off 11, and Robyn Wilkes, off 24, played flawless golf to come in two over the card with 74 (37/37) hits to record a nett score of 65 ¼. Their marvellous round included the one birdie on the 11th together with 14 pars and 3 bogies. In 2nd place were Julie White and Kaye Murdoch on 65 ¼, 3rd place went to Norma Carter and Anna Bidstrup on 70 ¼ and Jane Wolfe and Trish Clark placed 4th on 70 ¾. NTP winners were Julie White/Kaye Murdoch with a birdie on the 1st and Jean Dahl/Janette Blair on the 10th. Saturday’s stableford event accommodated 8 starters with Coolangatta-Tweed’s Sue Reguson staying over from Friday for a game. Sue recorded a fantastic eagle on the par 5 11th hole to return a nett score of 36pts. However, this was not quite enough to defeat her very happy cousin, Janette Blair, with her also returning 36, giving Janette the nod from Sue on the c/b to take the day’s “winning cheque”. Noeline won the ball and Sonya received the NTP. A reminder that there will be no Saturday ladies golf this coming Saturday, which is probably just as well for the Jacaranda Thursday veteran birthday girl, due to the men’s 2015 Jacaranda Open being conducted on our course over the two days. We wish all the visiting and local players the best of luck in this time honoured traditional event. Julie White
