A large number of nominations was received for the Senior division and by the time the four qualifying finalists had been determined a number of dreams and hopes had been shattered, luck both good and bad had been experienced and a swath of exhausted competitors left on the greens.
Ultimately this division came down to a battle between three Yamba members, Peter Forrester, Graham Meany and Ian Parker and Doug Starr from Maclean. The match between Peter and Doug was a contest with neither bowler establishing dominance over the other. The scores see-sawed continually and just when it appeared that one was going to take control the other would surge. A late surge from Doug to take the closing five ends of the match led to victory by 31 shots to 28.
Graham and Ian produced a classic finals encounter. In the early to middle stages of the contest it appeared that Ian may prove too dominant on the day and led by 19 shots to 12 after 20 ends of play. Ian was still in command seven ends later with the scoreboard showing 25 shots to 17. Ian was continuing the impressive form he had displayed all weekend and was becoming the oppressive force in the contest. However, after another ten ends of play, Graham had grabbed the lead, 30 to 29, and was in search of the elusive final point.
Again, Ian showed great sangfroid to rise to the challenge and following a sequence of astonishing and bewildering shots, managed to close out the match 31 shots to 30 and claim a position at the Zone finals.
