Over 150 golfers brave cold wet conditions

Last Thursday’s Stableford comp at Yamba drew a great size field with only four golfers pulling out because of the rain, with visitors from 20 different clubs sticking it out.

A Grade winner was Bruce Lulham who on his birthday let the handbrake slip and returned 42pts, r/up was our professional John Wright with 40pts and 3rd went to Craig Penman with 38pts on a c/b.

Col Simmons had his first win since returning to Yamba with the score of the day 43pts from Pip Dixon 39pts an 3rd went to John Maguire with 38pts on a c/b.

In C Grade Terry Wilson was the winner with 40pts from Tommy James 38pts on a c/b from Charlie Tyler.

NTPs: SeaFire Steak and Seafood 3rd – Chris Holst was 144cm; Peter Campbell Physio 9th – Warren Hughes at 68cm; SeaFire 10th – Tony Burley at 116cm; Yamba Barber Shop 12th – Craig Penman at 68cm, Craig also collected the Pro Pin on that hole; SeaFire 17th – Peter Brennan at 280cm.

Balls for the day went to 35pts or better and there was also a 4BBB held in conjunction with the team of Paul Thompson and Tony Burley coming out on top with 47pts after Mr Burley had 23 points on the first 9 and only 9 on the second nine holes. Did someone say choke?

Saturday was a 4BBB Aggregate Stableford and still seeing plenty of visitors the field was great again.

The winning team and the last team off the course was the group of Richard Beresford and Dave McGregor returning 78pts on a c/b from Jan Dampney and Wayne Nixon for 2nd. In 3rd place was the team of Greg Laforest and Neil Drummond on a three way c/b with 74pts, 4th was Martyn Tishler and Greg Starr also on the c/b and 5th place was Paul Thompson and Barry Fisher with 74 also.

NTPs: 3rd John Wright Pro Shop – Clive Holland (Kiama) at 153cm; Peter Campbell Physio 9th – Richie Carter at 72cm; SeaFire 10th – Craig Brown (Gatton Jubilee) at 194cm; SeaFire 12th and pro pin was Kris Thomsen at 53cm; Bean Scene 17th – Ray Robinson at 240cm and the 2nd shot 17th went to Lary Dorman at 116cm.

Balls went to 68 points with 31 points or better on the back 9.

Cystic Fibrosis Golf Day

A fantastic group of 60 big hearted people teed it up on Sunday for a great cause, giving their time and much needed money in perfect conditions. Throw this in with the 80 plus walkers from Brooms Head to Yamba and it was a hugely successful day for the charity.

Big thanks goes to L J Hooker of Maclean for putting it together and also the sponsors, Yamba Golf, Bowlo Sport and Leisure, The Pacific Hotel and Bottle Shop and Fisho’s fish shop. This day couldn’t go ahead without these generous businesses.

The winning team of the day was the team of Luke Turner, B Mayes, B Dicinoski and T Robson with 54 nett; 2nd was the team of Matt Breakwell, Laurie Urquhart, Matt Mitchell and D Green with 55 ½ on a c/b from Trevor Kapeen, Theo Woods, Riley Lucas and Tom Draviiski; 4th went to Kane Hancock the other Luke Turner, Tim Seivers and Luke Woldseth with 55 7/8; 5th was Luke Hitchings Justin Dasczyk, Tony Roder and Dave Groth with 57 nett on a c/b from Greg Starr Darryl Crook, Clayton Hope and Allison Caller.
