Osprey RSL Day Club – almost Christmas

Oh, my goodness it is November already and the silly season is almost upon us. There are only eight weeks until Christmas Day, And only six until our Christmas party and breakup day on December 11.

Fear not, for our very own little elves have been busy behind the scenes preparing for our special day. This has been an extremely difficult year for us all in more ways than one, but we have come through with flying colours, and have adapted to the changes and challenges of our new way of life with the same courage our servicemen displayed during conflict. I know you have all drawn strength, comfort and guidance from our weekly get togethers. So, this Christmas we shall party harder and longer.

Osprey would like to say a big “thank you” to Evans River Day Club for their kind thoughts and generous donation following the meeting of most Northern Rivers Day Clubs held in October. It was truly wonderful to see so many clubs participate and share the highs and lows of a difficult year. It was almost a “think tank” meeting that I believe gave new hope to clubs doing it tough, and those that cannot yet operate because their numbers are too large to remain COVID safe. May next year be a better year for us all.

November 20 will be our 20th birthday. What a milestone; one to be celebrated with gusto, and we will. Once again because of COVID we will be slightly restricted, but we are not going to let it spoil our day. It is the day we say thanks for our years of friendship; the day we thank the RSL for having the foresight to care for our service men, women and families; and a day we recognise the service of our wonderful volunteers. One of the things which came out of our “think tank” was, how difficult it is to get volunteers from the younger generations. Sad but true. And this brings me to a quotation I spied last week, “Don’t ever question the value of volunteers. Noah’s Ark was built by volunteers. Titanic was built by professionals”.

Heather won the lucky door and wisely chose the chocolates.

Shirley and Lyn each won a $20 Coles shopping voucher.

and Pat and I cleaned up the Bingo prizes! Sorry about that!

Thanks, Col for the glorious hibiscus arrangement you brought us from your garden.
