Only the Bravehearted

Another day at the office for Clem Rhoden playing in the Bravehearts Stableford event on the 2nd nine holes at beautiful Maclean Golf Club on Tuesday a fortnight ago. The course was firm with greens like velvet and putting was very slick and unlike last week the weather was beautiful.
With a winning score of 20 points, Clem took home the bottle of Pelican Point red wine for dinner. Now, normally, he would have been disqualified for playing off the wrong markers but as he actually made it harder for himself by playing the blue tees instead of the white, we didn’t. He has however, earned himself a reduction of two strokes off his handicap. Excellent golf mate, we all applaud your remarkable effort. In second place was John Hopkins on 18 points nabbing the box of chocolates which he shared around. (He also scored the Italian on the Hill free drinks voucher for a close shot on the 11th hole for the NTP prize.) Third place was Gary Taylor on 17 points, claiming the Sassafras voucher prize, with a really hot and cold round. Several other players complained that they fared the same and are hoping for some consistency in next week’s competition.
Bruce Johnston was nearest the pin on the 17th winning a bottle of wine. When he left (for Lennox in the camper) before the prize draw he wasn’t expecting such good news as wasn’t impressed with the rest of his round.

That brings us to our wet delayed game last Tuesday, where only the Bravest turned out. With the threatening weather last Tuesday, only three intrepid Braves turned up for the special afternoon bash. Rod, Trevor and Gary ventured out on overcast conditions and managed to complete the second 9 holes without getting wet. It was fine for 8 holes wjth only one 5 minute delay on the 14th for a heavy shower to pass. Rod played best with 16 points and Gary was rewarded with three birdies, (10th, 11th & 17th).

As they won 1st, 2nd and 3rd, there was no challenge, so it was decided that they’d not collect prizes and leave them in the box for future use.

Join us Tuesday at 9am or some fun and games (weather permitting). Slower players are welcome to start earlier (please set up scoreboard and take NTP markers with you) on the 1st 9 play stableford, add putts up and measure nearest to pins on holes 2 and 7. See you at Maclean Golf Club. We can’t finish without mentioning our generous sponsors, thanks for your support.
