Old Boys Day for Yamba Buccaneers

Another home fixture and another thrilling game of Rugby with scintillating tries thrown in the mix by both teams.

It was Old Boys Day as well, with a huge number of past legends of the game turning out to tell everyone how good they used to be and to have a beer with their old mates, celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Premiership team of 1982.

On the paddock, Yamba again went into top gear early, leading 13 nil after just 14 minutes and the lead see sawed well into the second half.

Opponents Richmond Range were a class unit, but Yamba kept them at bay for long periods in the second half until the Buccaneers were handed two yellow cards for misdemeanours and as a result, they played with only 13 men.

Range took advantage of this headed by Captain Alex Gibbons (Australian 7’s rep and current NSW Country Centre) whose brother Matt ran on for the Wallabies the next morning.

Range also boasted Cody Walker former Buccaneer & Waratahs prop which helped with a dominant scrum.

However, on the flip side playing for the Buccaneers brother Joey had an absolute blinder tackling anything the Rangers threw at him.

Other players to shine for Yamba were centre Nathan Hollis, fullback Joel Imeson, halfback Josh Morris and backrower Dan Frogan.

Players Player was awarded to Joe Walker, 3 points went to Jack Horny, 2 points to Rowan Fahey and one went to Keeley Pritchett.

The final score was Richmond Rangers 44 defeated Yamba Buccaneers 20.

Sunday saw the Far North Coast Under 12 team coached by Dane Mitchell and containing six Yamba players, the side defeat Mid North Coast 64 to 5 in another entertaining game of Junior rugby at Yamba Oval.
