Jo Simmons, braving it in unbelievable conditions last week. It was windy, wet and WILD! Image: Contributed

Of course, there was no Yamba ladies’ golf!

With wet weather resulting in major flooding for the area, no golfing competitions were held last week but we do have a busy calendar of events coming up over the next few weeks.

This Wednesday (weather permitting) will be the rescheduled 2nd Monthly Medal Stroke round. This will also be the qualifying round for the Knockout and the start of the annual Eclectic and Gobbler competitions. Matchplay must be played on stipulated Fridays with the final to be held on Wednesday, March 23.

Next Wednesday, March 16 will be an opportunity for the ladies to play dress ups in ‘green’ or ‘orange’ for the very popular Irish Fourball event which will celebrate St Patrick’s Day. There’ll be a prize for ‘best dressed’ and ‘best decorated cart’.

This year the annual GIMY (Grafton, Iluka, Maclean, Yamba) Shield will be held at Maclean on Friday, March 26. With entries closing next Wednesday, March 16, our ladies are being urged to enter their names onto the sheet which can be found in both the golfers’ lounge and the ladies locker lounge. Payment of $30 can be given to Jo Simmons or paid directly into the Yamba ladies bank account. We would like as many ladies as possible to support this event.

In coming weeks, our Captain, Penny Cope, will also be looking at results to invite players to represent Yamba ladies in the five-person Inter-Club Team event (18-hole Stroke) to be held at Casino on Friday, April 1. A perpetual trophy will be offered to the successful team to take back to their home club.

Another upcoming event to consider is the annual May Tournament (Grafton) to be held from May 25 – 27. It concludes with a Mixed American Foursomes on May 28. Also, there is the Maclean Veterans’ Open Day 2BBB Stableford/Scratch in conjunction event will be held on June 29.

Finally, players are strongly encouraged to consider nominating for Pennant’s selection. The organisation has changed this year with only one team allowed per club. The nomination sheet is in the ladies locker room and golfers’ lounge.

Let’s hope for a week without any interruption to this week’s calendar.

Happy golfing!
