NSW’s best junior surfers put on a show at Sawtell for the Woolworths NSW Junior State Titles pres. by Ocean and Earth

NSW junior surfers quest for a state title climaxed today at the Woolworths NSW Junior State Titles pres. by Ocean and Earth with some of the state’s best young surfers hitting the water for heats in punchy three-to-four foot surf at Sawtell.
Oceanna Rogers (Shell Harbour) surfed well beyond her years in the Under-16 Girls division, hammering sections with a combination of style and gusto. The tiny Illawarra surfer shone in the overhead surf posting a mammoth 17.50 two-wave heat total which consisted of a near-perfect 9.50 wave score and an 8.00. Heat runner up and local Rosie Smart (Sawtell) put on a valiant performance posting a 16.07 heat total but was unable to jump ahead of her Rogers who sealed the heat win with the two aforementioned scores.
Keira Buckpitt (Culburra) and Zahlia Short (Austinmer) remained two of the biggest standouts of the event with both surfers notching up heat totals 16.00. Both surfers will make their next appearance in the Under-16 Girls quarterfinals tomorrow.
Fresh off his incredible performance in the recent big swells in Sydney, Kobi Clements (Collaroy) showed his small-wave game was just as mind-blowing as he smashed a giant 16.76 two-wave heat total in the third round of the Under-18 Boys. Clements executed some of the most powerful and technical snaps of the entire event to earn himself a position into the fourth round.
Central Coast goofy-footer Lennox Chell (Avoca) made his return to the NSW State Junior Titles after a year off last year and proceeded to link together a chain of incredible backside snaps and carves. Chell finished the heat with a solid 16.60 two-wave heat total which left his fellow competitors chasing two-wave combinations to take away his lead.
Jordan Turansky (Cronulla), Grayson Hinrichs (Bondi) and Jarvis Earle (Cronulla) flew the flag for Sydney surfers south of the Harbour Bridge with all surfers posting heat totals in excess of 15.00. All three surfers will make their next appearance in the fourth round.
The Woolworths NSW Junior State Titles pres. by Ocean and Earth will see its first champions crowned tomorrow with the Under-16 division expected to wrap up tomorrow.
