The NSW Government has this week announced $48,900 to fund the upgrade of facilities at the New School of Arts Neighbourhood House in South Grafton. The NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW, John Barilaro, announced the funding as part of a regional tour through the Clarence Valley. Mr Barilaro said the NSW Government was pleased to be able partner with the local community to invest in an invaluable institution in the region. “Regional NSW has a diverse range of organisations and clubs that promote different interests and social interaction and we want to ensure that people can continue to enjoy them,” Mr Barilaro said. Member for Clarence Chris Gulaptis said that financial assistance from the Government would allow the New School of Arts Neighbourhood House to expand its existing community hub activities. “I’m very pleased that we can support the New School of Arts Neighbourhood House with the upgrade of the community hall and meeting facilities which are used by a wide variety of community groups. “They do an amazing job under the leadership of CEO Skye Sear dealing with a whole range of social issues such as domestic violence and homelessness. “They work on a shoestring budget and this funding will ensure they have adequate facilities so they can continue to provide much-needed support to the most vulnerable in our community. “The activities held there include youth events, arts and cultural activities, training, support groups and sport and recreation. “The New School of Arts Neighbourhood House, which is run by a community-based board of management, is an important and long-standing part of the Clarence Valley community having been established 40 years ago. “It employs more than 45 people and is strongly supported by more than 130 volunteers who give very generously of their time and skills to assist their community,” Mr Gulaptis.
