NSW government and Richmond Valley Council unite for major Evans Head library upgrade

The Evans Head library is set for a major expansion following an investment of nearly $900,000 from the Nationals in NSW Government and Richmond Valley Council, Clarence Nationals MP Chris Gulaptis has announced.

“This is a big deal for the coastal paradise town; among other benefits it will triple the floor space in the building which is ideally located next to the new HealthOne  centre we have just opened,” Mr Gulaptis said.

“Many predicted the demise of libraries with the advent of home internet, but just like movie theatres the naysayers were proved wrong and we are investing big time in this library.”

Mr Gulaptis said 77 per cent of Evans Head residents were members of their library, and it got 19,000 visits and 21,000 loans a year.

Richmond Valley Mayor Robert Mustow said it was another great example of Council working effectively with the NSW Government to deliver a great outcome for locals.

“We thank the NSW Government for its contribution towards enhancing this valuable community space,” said Cr Mustow.

“Local libraries offer residents a place to stay connected with friends, family and the world.

“The Evans Head community appreciates the library services on offer, and we want them to have access to a friendly, welcoming space where they can gather, learn and grow.”

The NSW Government is contributing $399,053 towards the project with Richmond Valley Council providing $480,000.
