Northern Rivers Nationals welcome road safety funding

North Coast Nationals MPs Chris Gulaptis (Clarence), Thomas George (Lismore) and Geoff Provest (Tweed) have announced a $5000 NSW Government grant which will allow Anglicare North Coast to conduct road safety courses across the region. The Road to Freedom project will focus on the particular needs of woman (newly arrived refugee/humanitarian entrants) and their road safety needs as determined by them: road rules, bicycle safety and language for road use/share. Workshops will be delivered in first language and English with the support of translated documents. Mr Gulaptis said billions of dollars were being invested for a safer Pacific Highway but even modest grants like the Road to Freedom project had the potential to save lives. Thomas George said empowering more women to feel confident at the wheel was good for families and good for jobs. Geoff Provest also praised the initiative saying it was well targeted to the needs of women.
