The Biirrinda and Harwood Island Community Committee has announced a new date for its Harmony Day celebration: Saturday June 24. The event was set to take place on March 19, but was postponed due to rainy weather. “It looks like it’s going to be even bigger than the one in March was going to be,” says publicity officer Kathleen Werry. “The Gallery Foundation [Grafton Regional Gallery] was also unable to have its Harmony Day event, so they’ve teamed up with us to make one big rescheduled event. “Through the Gallery Foundation we also have sponsorship from Multicultural NSW, which will help us put on a really big show. “It will still be held at the Harwood Hotel from 10am onwards, with food, music and dancing representing the world cultures of the valley, and special guest speakers. “We will also have an art exhibition from the Grafton gallery and a free bus to and from Grafton, leaving from Market Square in the morning and returning in the afternoon. “We’ll also have hundreds of dollars worth of raffle prizes and performances from several live bands throughout the day and into the evening. “We were devastated when we had to cancel the March event due to the torrential rain, but we’re very excited to be able to reschedule the event and do it in conjunction with the Gallery Foundation.”
