The 20-kilometre drive between Woodburn and Coraki for motorists is set for a marked improvement with the imminent start of roadworks along the full stretch.
Clarence Nationals MP Chris Gulaptis welcomed the funding from the NSW Government, which will enable Richmond Valley Council to start works on the key corridor as soon as possible.
“We are spending billions on the Pacific Highway, and at the last election I secured a $10 million Government pledge to fix the Woodburn to Coraki Road, a promise the Government is now keeping,” Mr Gulaptis said.
“We know there’s been a lot of heavy vehicles using this road as part of the highway upgrade, but these major works will it make safer and smoother than it ever was.
“This is a really big deal for the many Coraki and Woodburn locals who use the road every day, and I thank them for supporting my efforts to convince the State Government to invest in this project.”
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the funding was part of the NSW Government’s unprecedented investment in regional roads.
“This is about delivering the roads and infrastructure that make a real difference to the everyday lives of locals,” Mr Toole said.
“Coming at this critical time, the funding will also help support local jobs and generate income for local suppliers, which is a big win for the community.”
Richmond Valley Mayor Robert Mustow has welcomed the Minister’s announcement that the NSW Government will provide funding to upgrade the Woodburn Coraki Road.
“The Woodburn Coraki Road has pulled its weight in supporting the construction of the Pacific Motorway, with thousands of trucks carrying large volumes of quarry material. It’s great news that the NSW Government is delivering on its $10 million promise to go with recent upgrades of $2.4 million funded by Richmond Valley Council and the Australian Government.
“The Woodburn Coraki Road will be an increasingly important link to and from the Pacific Motorway for residents, tourists and industries across the Richmond Valley, Kyogle, Tenterfield and beyond once it is opened later this year.
