The depressing weather continues to make life difficult for golfers at Yamba Golf & Country Club.
Thursday’s midweek Stableford round saw the competition reduced to a single grade and scoring was again very difficult. A visitor from Murgon, Steven Robinson, was the winner with a fine round of 38 points. Second place went to Bob Walpole with 36 points followed by Greig Little 35.
NTP winners: 3rd Greig Little 228cm; 9th Paul Christie 267cm; 10th Oliver Merlot 348cm; 12th Andre Rizk 121 and 17th Rod Madden 306. Sponsors were SeaFire Steak & Seafood, Peter Campbell Physiotherapy and Yamba Barber Shop. The Pro Pin winners were 0-14 Andre Rizk and 15-54 Don Schlusser. The ball rundown went to 32/16.
John Ashby and Albert Fox score well
The rain held off on Saturday and the course was actually quite dry in comparison to recent weeks. Only 99 golfers competed in the Stableford round and most found the testing conditions more than they could handle.
The exceptions were John Ashby and Albert Fox, who had to be separated by countback when both scored great rounds of 41 points. Third place in A Grade went to Michael Shirlow with 39.
In B Grade, the winner was our genial Golf Manager Chris Durrington, whose 38 points gave him the voucher. Terry Bull and Jeff Boylan both scored 37 points to take the minor placings.
NTPs were sponsored by SeaFire Steak & Seafood, Peter Campbell Physiotherapist and Bean Scene Café. Closest on the 3rd was Graham Kulmar 144, 9th Michael Shirlow 182cm, 10th Reilly Wunderlich 36cm, 12th Rob Imeson (Maclean) 48cm and 17th Tony McFarlane 167cm. Pro Pin winners were, 0-14 Reilly Wunderlich and 15-54 Mike Grills. Balls went down to 34/16.
The mixed event scheduled for next Sunday will now be for the postponed Mother’s Day Cup. It will be a 2BBB Stableford and entries can be made online as usual. We just need some fine weather.
