Dear Ed,
This week marks Men’s Health Week (15-21 June) and it’s now more important than ever we shine a light on men’s mental health.
Each year, one in five of us will experience a mental health problem. Mental health problems are common, but they are also very treatable.
Yet if you live in the city you are twice as likely to access a psychologist then if you live in a rural area of NSW.
Like many of us, the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP) team saw that many men in the bush who weren’t doing well were also not reaching out for help to keep themselves strong and well. In response the RAMHP team worked with rural men to build the You Got This Mate website.
You Got This Mate (www.yougotthismate.com.au) provides men with practical tips and information about how and when to take action when it comes to their mental health.
Showcasing videos of men sharing their stories about their own journey and struggles with mental health, You Got This Mate also connects men to the best possible care in their local area.
RAMHP believes improving men’s mental health male needs to go well beyond getting men to talk, they need simple, actionable advice to keep themselves well and know how to get help when they need it.
You Got This Mate was only launched in April, and already the website has gained significant interest, demonstrating the strong need for this tailored website. You got this mate… and RAMHP’s here to help.
In an emergency call 000 or visit your local hospital Emergency Department.
Contact Lifeline for immediate mental health support on 13 11 14.
