Men charged over Daley case

Two men have been charged over the death of Lynette Daley, whose bruised and bloodied body was found on Ten Mile Beach, north of Iluka, in January 2011. Ms Daley had camped at the beach with the men, Adrian Attwater, who is charged with manslaughter and aggravated sexual intercourse without consent; and Paul Maris, who faces charges of aggravated sexual intercourse without consent and accessory after the fact to manslaughter. The men were previously charged, however, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) did not prosecute the men. However, a recent Four Corners program brought the alleged crimes back into the public spotlight. NSW Attorney-General Gabrielle Upton and Clarence MP Chris Gulaptis called for action, as did an online petition signed by more than 30,000 people. After receiving independent advice, Director of Public Prosecutions, Lloyd Babb, SC, announced on Tuesday June 21 that he had decided to prosecute the men. Mr Attwater and Mr Maris are due to appear in Grafton Local Court on August 2.
