Mareeba residents enjoy local rowing regatta

  It was nice to see the residents from Mareeba Aged Care who came to watch the Lower Clarence Rowing Club’s regatta recently in what was a successful day for our rowers bring home 33 gold medals. The Glenn Brown Perpetual Trophy for M.H.S. Junior point score was won by Clara Samms. The Harold and Hazel Kratz Perpetual Trophy for the WU15/16 quad scull was won by the Lower Clarence crew of Clara Samms, Stephanie Hutton, Kirilly Maxwell and Elissa Metcalfe. The same crew also won the WU17 quad scull. The Sid Philips Junior Boys sculls shield was won by Dylan Rhodes (Tweed) who also won the Lex Essex trophy for Men’s Open single scull. Gemma Dane won the Lex Essex trophy for Women’s Open single scull. Tim George and Clare Millist both won their respective Men’s and Women’s Masters single scull races with Candice Jagoe 3rd in her race. Jagoe and Leah Doman (Coffs) won their WM double scull while Keryn Saunders and Millist were 3rd in their race. The crew of Saunders, Doman, Mandy Steel and Millist had a good race to win the WM quad scull. Gemma Dane and Crystal Piper won the WO double scull. Piper was also 2nd in the WO single. Dane, Piper, Jagoe and Doman then combined to win the WO quad scull with our other crew of Georgie Dobbin, Eryn Hammond, Amie Inmon and Jesse Corbett 2nd. Dane and Jagoe also won the Women’s hcp double. Jagoe and Dean Bolton won their division in the mixed double scull with Logan Bolton and Piper 2nd. In the Masters age group both crews of Steel and George, Millist and Hailes finished third in their respective races. The crew of Saunders, Steel, George and Hailes finished 3rd in the Mixed quad. Logan Bolton and Braden Cooper (Grafton) won the MO double scull followed by Mitchell Johns and Jesse Corbett 2nd and Lachlan Fischer and Lachlan Maxwell 3rd. Logan was also 2nd in his division of the MO single scull and with Dean Bolton, came 2nd in the Men’s hcp double Johns, Corbett, Fischer and Angus Cassidy came 2nd in the MO quad with Luke Plummer, Sam Stanton, Jackson Hirst and Maxwell 3rd. Lachlan Maxwell was 3rd in the MU15/16 single scull Ben Young got his first gold medal when he won his division of the Men’s hcp single and was 2nd in his Men Novice single scull. Dean Bolton also finished 2nd in his division. Samms won her division of the WU15/16 single and also won the WU15/16 double with Hutton. Maxwell and Metcalfe came 3rd in both the WU17 and WU15/16 doubles. Would like to thank Jeff and Marlene Anderson very much for the use of their land once again.
