Marc Chiaruttini wins midweek Yamba golf

Despite the lockdown, 124 keen golfers competed in the midweek Stableford event at Yamba Golf & Country Club on Thursday.

Some good scores were returned but none was better that the 43 points recorded by Marc Chiaruttini to easily win the B Grade voucher. In second place was Luke Luchetti (38) followed by Ken Dewar (37).

In A Grade, Kevin Lowe outpointed Bob Walpole and Time Stokes by a single shot when he posted 38 points. Bob and Tim had 37 and visited the countback.

It was good to see Jack Esau take out the C Grade winner’s voucher with 38 points. He was followed by Stephen Dorrell (37) and Dennis Blackburn 35.

Under COVID rules there were no NTP’s. The ball rundown extended to 35 with 17 on the back.

Saturday Stableford to Barry Fisher

A field of 133 golfers played in the Saturday Stableford and scores reflected the perfect, almost Spring, day.

In A Grade, Barry Fisher had his driver working well and scored 40 points to win on a countback from the unlucky Zane Lowe. Des Hall took third place with his well compiled 39 points.

A total of 39 points was scored by no less than four golfers in B Grade. The countback was invoked and resulted in Graeme Coates winning from Stephen Mather (Glen Innes) and Rob Hodson. The remaining 39 points scorer, Dale Stephens, was most unlucky to be outside the voucher placings.

Keith James returned to the winner’s list in C Grade with 38 points on a countback from club president, Tony Moran. Third place went to Terry Alford with 35 points.

The Tuesday Medley nine-hole winner was Patrick Dougherty, and the Friday chicken run was secured by Ken Dewar. A highlight of the Tuesday event was the remarkable final two holes by Tony Moran. He scored a 2 on the 17th for five points and a 5 on the 18th for four points, nine points for two holes!

The lockdown continues next week but is scheduled to finish at one minute after midnight on Saturday morning. Timesheets for the week will be changed to groups of two players but Saturday’s Stableford timesheet will reflect whatever decision is reached by the Government on Friday morning. Please check the timesheets carefully during the week.
