Regarding the recent brochure sent to ratepayers on the increase of rates to maintain council assets.
The charges are highly discriminatory as all these assets are able to be accessed by all ratepayers. Using % to charge three categories at a different rate is unfair, as the letter stated that the monies raised are for the maintenance of said assets, open to ratepayers and any visitors wanting to use them.
The variation Maclean $68,Yamba $75.46, Grafton $73.36 divided equally comes to $72.27. The proposal is unfair especially for pensioners (I am one) as we are on a fixed income and the rebates on our rates are not given on a % basis. I am not objecting to the charges just make it fair to all.
