Maclean VIEW Club goes Scottish

Our last meeting included the ‘Wearing of the Tartan’

Members and guests were welcomed, looking splendid in their Tartans of their various Clans. The room was decked out in a Scottish theme, displaying more Tartan and banners; the occasion was the Clubs 41st, birthday celebration.

Decade pins were presented, by Zone Councillor Elizabeth Birch for Membership: Gwen Budd (30 years); Robyn Gordon (20 years); Liz Robinson, Helen McCarthy, Barbara Foster and Sylvia Callaghan (10 years). Congratulation ladies for your wonderful support over the years.

Zone Councillor, Elizabeth Birch with president Ruth Toyer cut the cake, decorated with highland dancers.

Guest speaker was Alistair Smith, the secretary of The Lower Clarence Scottish Association, administrator of The Highland Gathering and president of The District Pipe Band.

Alistair gave an excellent account of the history on The Highland Gathering. Also the dress of the Scots and what each article represented – from head to toe. What a wonderful talk, thank you.

Entertaining us with beautiful folk songs was Scottish vocalist, Ann Gray.

‘Best Dressed Lassie’ was Val Chalker from Woolgoolga VIEW Club.

Guest for June: “Trivia Time” with Lesley McFarlane.
