Maclean Thursday golf

With some holding back for the weekend’s Club Championship opener, a slightly subdued field tinkered with their swings and tried to second guess pin positions for the weekend.

Not for Geoffrey Johnson who sauntered in with 42 points to be three shots clear in A Grade.

Joel Power and the consistent Andrew Cowling took out the minor places with 39 and 38 points respectively.

Ball prizes down to Stephen Mackenzie with 35 points.

In B Grade Phillip Killerian was again on top of the leader board. His 39 points just kept out John Lockyer and Greg Saul.

Ball prizes down to Scott young on 33 points.

The main drama was after the golf when an enormous lightning bolt struck a large tree defining the fourteenth hole.

Unfortunately, it and two others similarly dead will be removed this week.
