Maclean Seniors: Vale – Elaine, Nola and Barbara

At the May meeting of Maclean Senior Citizens, we gained a new member Moyra Huttinger who was welcomed by President Carole.

Since the start of this year, we have lost some of our members Elaine Grogin, Nola Downey and Barbara Turner who have passed away.  A minute’s silence was held at our meetings for these members.

We have made donations to Westpac Helicopter and Maclean Hospital Auxiliary. These donations are made annually.

Our Seniors Day was held on Wednesday March 30 and 68 seniors attended and the day was enjoyed by all. Numbers were down though due to the floods. Residents from Mareeba attended and had a great time. Live entertainment by ‘The Depend-ables’ was excellent and suited the older generation perfectly.

The Biggest Morning Tea will be held on Wednesday June 8 at 10am at Maclean Bowling Club. Cost is $5. There will be raffles and lucky door prizes and all funds raised on the day will be donated to the Cancer Council. Come along and have a cake and a cuppa!

A trip to the Lawrence Museum will be on Tuesday June 14 and lunch will be at the Lawrence Hotel at 12.30pm. Names will be taken at the meeting on Wednesday June 1. Transport via cars will be arranged for the members who wish to attend.

At the June meeting, Captain Owen Gray of Maclean Fire Brigade will be our guest speaker.

New members aged 55 and over are welcome to join Maclean Seniors Citizens. If you have a friend, neighbour or relative they are welcome to come along to one of our meetings to see if they would like to join us once a month and attend our outings.

Membership fees are due by the June or July meeting.

President Carole will not be standing for re-election at the AGM due to ill health.
