Another year has passed, and a New Year has begun. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year.
Our seniors had a lovely time at the Christmas party in December with entertainment by Doug Charleston, with over 75 members enjoying the traditional baked meal and sweets. This year’s Christmas party will be Chinese smorgasbord.
Our first meeting for 2020 was on February 5 with 55 members attending and 11 apologies. Alastair and Betty Barnard are celebrating 60 years of marriage – congratulations to both of you.
Our guest speaker for February was Roslyn Hollis from Community Health for Women. Several topics were explained and what we must do keep healthy. Very interesting talk given by Roslyn especially the heart disease topic. A great lot of brochures were given out by Roslyn. There was a lot of information about different health issues.
Our Seniors day was held on Wednesday February 19. All seniors enjoyed the afternoon tea of sandwiches, sponge cake, sausage rolls, vanilla slice and iced bun loaf as well as entertainment by Doug Charleston. Caroona Nursing Home from Yamba enjoyed the afternoon taking home a share of raffle prizes and tombolas. Yamba Seniors and Lawrence over 50’s was there to enjoy a great afternoon tea as well. The afternoon is run in conjunction with Maclean Bowling Club and thanks must go to Julie for the decorations on the tables as well as Tamara for organising parts of the afternoon. Our seniors worked very hard to make the afternoon a success. The Lawrence members and our senior’s members helped make the afternoon refreshments in the kitchen. Thanks to Alan for setting up the tables on the Tuesday night and thanks to all our members for donating raffle prizes.
A trip is being organised and details of when and where will be finalised at the next meeting. Yamba Seniors day is Sunday, March 8. Numbers will be taken at our meeting on March 4 as tickets will be purchased after the meeting.
