Maclean Men’s Golf…Sunday is Maclean Hospital Auxiliary day

Last Wednesdays 9 Hole Skins event attracted a big field of players. The winner with 6 skins was John Parkes whose round included two 4 pointers. The r/up was skins organiser John Gorman who carded four 3 pointers. Thursdays Medley Stableford also saw some excellent scoring. Graeme Reti managed to put it all together for an impressive win with a score of 43 points. Close behind, John Porter was relegated to r/up with a great score of 42 points. John North also played very well to come in third place with 40. NTPs went to Leigh Barrington on the 2nd, Phil McGuire on the 7th and 11th and Bob Richards showed good form to take the tough 17th. Pro-balls ran down to 35 on a c/b. Visitors came from Wondai, Yamba and The Ridge. The course handled the inclement weather of the previous weekend very well but thanks must go to the staff and volunteers for the clean-up effort that was needed after the very strong winds. Saturday saw a Stroke event for the Monthly Mug kindly sponsored by Maclean Rural Supplies. Justin Menzies came in with a solid 68 nett to beat Gregor Simpson also on nett 68 on a countback. The best in B Div were Darrell Simmons with a nett 71 followed by Peter Fitzpatrick on nett 72. NTPs went to Wayne Mackaway on the 2nd, Gregor Simpson the 7th, Rod Smith the 11th and Paul Bamback the 17th. The separate prize for the ladies winner went to Cath Parker. Visitors were in attendance from Woolgoolga, Yamba and Grafton. Bruce Wiseman was a happy chappy after sinking his birdie on the 9th hole for a 4 pointer in front of the cheering verandah crowd. Gregor Simpson made a spectacular Eagle on the 13th after driving wide off the tee over to the 4th fairway. Taking a three wood he smashed it to 5 metres from the pin and then sunk the putt. Next Saturday we have the NSW Mens 4 Ball Qualifier 4BBB Vs Par, sponsored by Schweppes. Line up a partner for this popular event. Sunday, June 26 is also a day to keep free as it is a 9 hole 4 person Ambrose organised by the Maclean Chamber of Commerce to raise funds for the Maclean Hospital Auxiliary. Players and non-players are all welcome. The day begins with an 8.30 roll-up followed by a 9am shotgun start. Following the game will be a BBQ lunch and a charity auction with Travis McConnell from L J Hooker doing the honours. Thanks Travis. It is also a chance to meet and greet our wonderful emergency services people from the Police, Ambulance and Fire Brigade. Cost is only $25 each and includes lunch.
