Maclean Men’s Golf Club Championship

Last Saturday the final round of the Club Championships was played on a beautiful day, with blustery westerly winds and some very tough pins. In A Grade Paul Bamback held his lead to finish a convincing winner with a gross 322 from r/up Stephen Smith on 336. B Grade saw a fight to the last where winner Gregory Dickinson with 352 just pipped r/up John Phillips with 354. In C Grade Darrell Simmons took the win with a fantastic last round to come from well behind and finish with a 373 gross. The r/up was William McCurtayne with 376. D Grade saw winner Denis Runge with 419 overtake r/up Chris Moorhead on 422. Congratulations to all the winners. The overall Gross winner was Paul Bamback and the overall Nett winner was Stephen Smith who was 8 shots clear of the field. Very consistent golf Steve. The daily winner on Saturday was Daniel Kelly with an excellent 67 nett from Darrell Simmons, nett 70. Close behind on 71 nett were Wayne Dye, from Safety Beach and Bill Goodwin. All received trophies kindly donated by Espresso Botero. NTPs went to Aaron Watts on the 2nd, Robert Fuller the 7th, Hugh Saunders the 11th and Brian Napper the 17th. The Thistle Hole was won by Daniel Kelly and Darrell Simmons, in red hot form, eagled the 10th. Pro-balls ran down to 77 on a c/b in A, B and C Grades and 76 in D Grade. Visitors came from Safety Beach, Grafton and Yamba. Verandah talk included the B Grade finalists 18th hole where scores included an 8, 10 and 11. The last two rounds of the Championships also saw the top 8 gross scores in each grade qualify for the match play championships. For details check at the Pro-Shop. Thursdays Single Stableford saw Phil McGuire take a win with 39 points from r/up Terrry Adcock on 38. Andrew Kelly holed out his second shot for an excellent eagle on the 10th and the NTPs went to Terry Adcock on the 2nd, Gregor Simpson on the 7th, Theo Sheppard on the 11th and Dennis Pye on the 17th. Pro-balls ran down to 35 points on a c/b. Wednesdays Skins always brings out some highlights and this week it was Don Skaines turn winning with 5 skins, including a great 5 pointer on the 5th hole. John Gorman was the r/up with 4. Last Sunday saw a field of 36 players contest the 4BBB Sunday Mix. With perfect weather a top day was had. Gai and Geoff Greenwood put together the winning combination with 42pts. Kaye Grayson and Peter Fitzpatrick carded a tidy 41pts as did Lyn and Bruce Johnston. The ball rundown went to 37pts. Another great lunch was enjoyed and special thanks to Wendy, Gai and Geoff for helping out. Thanks also goes to Bob Battin for organising a 100 Club.
