Maclean Men’s Bowls

Only two of the scheduled six championship matches were played last weekend. Again the final of the Minor Pairs has been deferred. Excuses, excuses, no wonder our Bowls Secretary has resigned. How can he run bowls in our club if players who have committed themselves to a championship event keep finding reasons not to play on the date he has set for play. Remember championships do take precedence over most other events. The two matches played were Mixed Fours first round matches. For full details see the results section. Nominations for the Club Mixed Triples Championship have closed and the draw will be done and posted shortly. Last Sunday morning we welcomed the travelling bowls group the Ballina RSL “Sand-fly’s”. The weather was showery, however, a good morning bowls was had by all. Thank you to our bowlers who attended. A group of the District Past Presidents mixed bowlers attended our Club on Sunday where they held their meeting and had lunch. As the weather was damp they declined to play a game of bowls but a good day was had. This weekend the District section of the State Champion-of-Champions Singles and Pairs will be held at Brooms Head Club. In the Singles on Saturday we have Don Plummer and in Sundays’ Pairs we have Jim Johnson & Don Plummer. We wish them every success. Don since his return to Maclean on a permanent basis has swept all before him. Our next mixed trip away has been arranged to Park Beach Club at Coffs Harbour on Sunday August 30. The bus will depart our club at 7.30am on the day. Cost will be $20 per person which includes the Bus trip, morning tea, green fees and lunch. A sheet for names is on the noticeboard.
