Maclean HS student competes in National Triathlon Series

Maclean High School student Elisha Gavin has competed on the North Coast of NSW and sometimes in QLD in Triathlon since she was 9 years old. She has accumulated a lot of wins up this way over the years but she had yet to compete in a NSW state event. So last year her parents gave her the green light to give it a crack. To build towards a competitive level for NSW All Schools in February, involved intense training sessions twice a day. Training days starting at dawn each day before returning home to have breakfast and get ready for school. Elisha was very focused on her training in the lead up to All Schools and put in a strong performance on race day landing herself an 8th place finish in NSW state. A few days after returning home to Yamba, Elisha was contacted by Triathlon NSW offering her a position as a NSW team member racing for the National title on April 26. So the training continued. It was hectic with Elisha working hard to keep focused on a demanding training regime that involves training for three sports each week. Elisha also attended intense training camps in Wollongong, Penrith and Runaway Bay QLD. Race day came and Elisha competed with the best in this sport in the country. Teams from NSW, ACT, QLD, VIC, SA, and WA attended. Elisha came in 24th in the Country; an excellent result in a high level competition. The following day Elisha got to race again as part of the NSW relay team. It was a great experience and one she will never forget.
