Year 9 Commerce students at Maclean High School have been working tirelessly for the past seven weeks creating new business ideas as part of the curriculum supported program ‘Learning In Action’, NSW Start Up.
All business ideas had to align with the United Nations sustainable development goals and our class focused on goal number 11, creating sustainable communities and cities. Businesses that have now been created from this program include Urban Masks, MYLK Australia, FoodMaps App, Trash Recycling App, BamBee been homes, Coastline in a Bag – seaweed bags and Greens from Beans – natural garden compost.
On Monday students had to pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges. Including, Jill Young from Botero Maclean, Hayley Talbot and Ang Lagos from Blanc Space Yamba, Debrah Novak – Yamba Community Farmers Market and we were so grateful to have on the panel international Emmy award winner and co-creator of ABC’s Dirt Girl – Cate Mcquillen and Logie award winner Costa Georgiadis. What a panel Students are to be congratulated on pitching their business ideas, all groups did an amazing job.
