Maclean golf

Saturday September 11

Confusion reigned for our 2BBB amongst the competitors on a brilliant and busy day. Playing in fours again but playing a pairs better ball competition again caused a number of creative methods of score recording.

Fortunately, the scrutineering committee was up to the task but had great difficulty in separating the top four teams all on 48 points. On c/b (just) was the combinations of Peter Fitzy and Yamba Pools sponsor Tony Johnson. They just squeezed out young guns Joel Imeson and Corey Lewis. Axel Kay and Gabriel Rainbow were left in third place on the same score. Also on the same score were the McFarlane brothers Sean and Troy Again with a field of 96.

The pace of play was good but let’s hope we don’t slip back to our pre-lockdown speeds.

Ball prizes down to 44 points.

Good to see Patrick Vacchiano back on the course after prolonged injury, expect to see him lose his guest status very soon.

Thursday September 9

Still playing under Covid two’s, the excellent midweek field got round in double quick time.

In A Grade, Jeff Craigie found the greens to his liking to record a winning 39 points. He was just too good for the rapidly improving Coby Tabor on 37 points. Third place was decided on c/b. On this occasion Young Sam Kapeen followed his strong showing last week to just edge out his consistent grandfather Trevor and the luckless Paul Bamback.

Ball prizes down to 34 points.

In B Grade, Peter Wild frightened his playing partner with 41 points to just pip Maclean Bowlo sponsor Marck Williams by a single point.

Troy McFarlane just snuck in to third place on c/b from Charlie Allen, who is also on the improve.

Marking your own card can lead to mishaps, Graham Millard forgot to mark his card for the second nine holes after a respectable 18 points to the turn.
