The Maclean Chamber of Commerce elected a new executive team at its annual general meeting (AGM) on May 8. Around 30 people attended the AGM at the Maclean Bowling Club, where the new team was chosen to lead the chamber for the coming year. The new executive team for the Maclean Chamber of Commerce is: President – Peter Gordon; treasurer Cathryn Hopson; secretary – Ken Pierce; membership officer – Tony Jarroush; and ordinary members – Jo Worboys, Joy de Roos and Warren Campbell. Chamber secretary Ken Pierce said the new team was eager to get to work. “We are planning to create a bond with our neighbouring chambers and look forward to working together, sharing experiences and developing a strong Clarence business community,” he said. “Our new executive team members are keen to get into our draft business plan and make a real difference in our community.” Mr Pierce said he was pleased with the turnout at Monday night’s meeting, which showed a high level of support for the chamber. “It was particularly promising to have so much support from council, with acting general manager Ashley Lindsay attending,” he said. “Mayor Simmons, councillor Baker, Liz Fairweather and Troy Anderson as well as our state member Chris Gulaptis are strong supporters of the chamber, but were unable to make it on the night. “We were also lucky to have representatives from partner organisations such as the NSW Business Chamber, TAFE and Tursa, attend. “President of the Grafton chamber Katie Kelemec and president of the Iluka/Woombah chamber Sonia Deakin also joined us. Margot Scott, president of the Yamba chamber was unable to attend.” A presentation was made during the evening to outgoing treasurer Jo Worboys for her outstanding support as treasurer for the Maclean Chamber for the last 14 years.
