This weekend’s Maclean Show Society Campdraft at the Maclean Showground, is shaping up to be the biggest on record.
Maclean Campdraft president Robbie Sutherland said that they have received around 1000 nominations for this year’s draft.
“Within the first hour and a quarter of nominations opening, we had received 860 nominations,” Mr Sutherland said.
“We’ve had to cut back to 600 runs.
“People will be attending from far and wide; some are coming from Bingara and Narrabri and other drought affected areas out west.
“The Tabulam draft isn’t on this year, so we will get a few from there,” he said.
The weekend’s action is set to kick off from 7am on Saturday morning, but due to the large number of entries this year; Mr Sutherland said it will probably start at 6.30am.
“We’ve got around 100 more entries than we’ve had before, so it will be our biggest draft by far,” he said.
“We had a few working bee’s a couple of months ago to upgrade the yards and loading ramp and we have a new announcers/scoring box, so this will be the first time they’ve been used,” he said.
Mr Sutherland said that anyone wanting to check out the action can call in any time and have a look.
“The best time will probably be late afternoon on Saturday and into the early evening under lights or the best drafting will be the drafting finals just after lunch on Sunday,” he said.
