Maclean could soon get its own weekly Maclean Harvest Markets if a development application DA2025/0050 which Clarence Valley Council are seeking feedback about is approved.
Farmers Markets have become regular weekly features in towns and cities around NSW and Australia, with regular Wednesday Farmers Markets held at Yamba, attracting locals and tourists alike.
The Operational Guidelines lodged with the DA state the objective was to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Maclean Harvest Market, whilst upholding its mission to support local farmers, promote healthy living, and foster community connections.
“The Maclean Harvest Market also supports the Clarence Valley Council’s strategic direction for markets within the Clarence Valley, which is to enhance and support the social, cultural, and economic well-being of the community,” the guidelines state.
“Maclean Harvest Market holds memberships with the Farmers Markets Alliance of NSW and commits to clear and transparent communication in fostering community spirit and connections.”
The applicant Maintenance Service by Miller MBSM PTY LTD states they aim to establish a dependable, welcoming, and professional regular platform for selling a wide range of local and regional goods, with a focus on fresh produce and artisan foods.
“This platform will provide local and regional growers, producers, artisans, and value-added creators the opportunity to sell their sustainably produced goods, supporting the growth of local and regional products,” the guidelines state.
“The producer must be based within the Clarence Valley or within a 150 km radius.
“The producer must either own, lease, or operate their farm, or hold an ABN or PIC Number.”
The markets are proposed to be held every Friday from 7am to 11am at Maclean Showground.
Clarence Valley Councillor Debrah Novak is the licensee of the Yamba Farmers and Producers Market which operate on Wednesday mornings at the Whiting Beach carpark.
The Conflict-of-Interest Management Statement lodged with the DA states the applicant is committed to full transparency and compliance with all Council policies and regulatory frameworks.
“No staff of MSBM PTY LTD are staff or councillors of the Clarence Valley Council nor do they have any relationship with any staff or councillors of the Clarence Valley Council,” the statement says.
“This is a sole independent DA application with no prior association with the Clarence Valley Council.”
Submissions from the public and stakeholders about the DA are welcome, all submission are considered public documents and are not confidential.
