Yamba Museum has a particularly well documented collection of items of historic value to our immediate area. It is a fascinating pastime delving into items that tell their own story, not to mention the interesting dinner conversations and discussions these items provide.
The problem is the Museum now needs someone to step up and take on the task of ‘collection management’, requiring a minimum of six hours per month. Training and mentoring will be provided. Duties include care of the objects in the collection: donations, documentation, photographing, handling and use.
Over time, and in collaboration with other volunteers, you could become involved in planning museum displays and temporary exhibitions. It is certainly a ‘love job’ but one which feeds the mind and the soul. Volunteering is huge in the Clarence Valley, with most community minded people partaking in some way in a field that interests them.
If you have been wondering what to do to stimulate your active brain, then this may well be the path for you. If you are interested in our local history and have some time to spare to assist our dedicated team, we’d love to hear from you – please contact the president, Lesley Pickering, by email: yambamuseumnsw@gmail.com.
